In recent works, I am exploring a precarious state of Being when disparate elements coalesce for a brief moment before an inevitable collapse or dispersion. In these rare singular instants, aggregations rise into unique and fragile structures in an attempt to attain cohesion and meaning.
Composed of gestures, abstract shapes and partly recognisable objects, these assemblages of hybrid components draw from calligraphy, abstract expressionism and the surrealist practice of “Exquisite Corpse”.
By coming together as part of a temporary structure, each element enters into a dialogue with the shape above or below, sometimes hinting at potential future reactions that could reshuffle the present creation into a brand new configuration.
I juxtapose different textures and handling of paint to underline the variety of voices in this ongoing conversation. With this evolving pictorial vocabulary, I also want to evoke a whimsical language with its syntactical variations and intricacies.
